Fort Matanzas National MonumentThe Fort Matanzas National Monument is a relatively small historical park. It offers free admission and a free ferry to the fort of Rattlesnake Island. On your way to the island you will learn some interesting facts about the history of the fort from your boat captain.
![]() While on the ferry you have a good chance to see dolphins. They are very playful and it is always fun to watch them jumping from the water. Hiking is available via a boardwalk and nature trails
that go through There are a lot of birds you may expect here, including ospreys, bald eagles, brown pelicans, great blue herons to mention just a few. On the beach you may see tracks of green sea turtles.
Park is open year round except for Christmas, operating hours are 9:00 am through 5:30 pm daily. Peak times are March through Labor Day, and the Christmas season. For detailed information visit: www.nps.gov/foma |
