When it comes to popular Florida tourist attractions, the sweetness and excitement of what is known as the "Winter Strawberry Capital of the World" comes alive during the Florida Strawberry Festival. At this event, typically celebrated in late February and early March, parades take to the street of Plant City, Florida, where satisfying country entertainment fills the air with local country bands. The celebration serves as one of the tastier Florida tourist attractions with vendors supplying strawberry shortcake creations to strawberry scented arts and crafts that pay homage to the biggest crop of the region.
Brief HistoryThe concept of the Strawberry Festival became established during the 1930s when the newly structured Plant City Lions Club came up with the idea on how to bring neighboring communities together – a celebration of the strawberry harvest. Additional local organizations (including the American Legion Post #26) would later join the Lions Club in planning the festivities. Today, the Florida Strawberry
Festival Association is headed by a board of directors within the local
community that work year-round to create an event that serves as one of
the top food-related Florida tourist attractions in the state. |
