City of
Jacksonville Florida
For visitors driving from the east coast down I-95 to
Florida, Jacksonville
is
the first city they pass through after
they cross the
Georgia - Florida border.
I say "pass through" because most of them
are heading farther south,
to Orlando, Daytona
Beach, or Miami.

The city of
Jacksonville Florida is still relatively little known and
remains underrated as a vacation destination, having no big name
attractions, other than its major league football team.
Still,
there
is a lot to do and a lot to see here, including great golf courses, the
Jacksonville Florida ZOO, seasonal fairs, festivals and
very
interesting museums. Check out the list of the most popular
Jacksonville events and attractions on the bottom of this page.

Jacksonville
is also a great city to live in. Situated on
both sides
of the big St. Johns river, it is a dream town for water enthusiasts.
The river, up to 3 miles wide in places, runs through the middle of the
city, crosses the downtown and then heads east to the nearby Atlantic
ocean. About 2 to 3 miles from the ocean and parallel to the
coast
runs the Intracoastal Waterway, a freshwater "East Florida Highway" for
boaters, which stretches from Georgia to Miami.
It separates the City
of Jacksonville Beach
from Jacksonville with a mile wide system of
marshes and canals that are a haven for fish and other aquatic
animals.
Six bridges connect both sides of the river and a few more
run over the Intracoastal. The downtown bridges are
illuminated after
dark for an even more spectacular view.
Downtown,
where around the Jacksonville
Landing beats the heart of
the city, daytime traffic and exciting Jacksonville nightlife
draw
different crowds. |

This area is best known for excellent restaurants,
some offering not only great food but spectacular views of the
river.
Not far from there are the sports complex and great entertainment
venues.
Mild all year-round Jacksonville weather, and its
location near ocean, beaches, rivers and lakes, give many opportunities
for leisure activities or sports for everyone.
For nature lovers
the city of Jacksonville
Florida, surrounded by many recreation areas
and parks, offers great opportunities for experiencing wildlife.
Manatees, alligators, all sorts of water birds, as well as
abundant
plant life make it one of the greenest cities in the nation.
Recently Jacksonville was picked by the Forbes magazine as one of
